Youth Media Alliance (YMA) is proud announced that John Rooney will be president of the English-language Awards of Excellence jury this year. The gala will honor the best productions targeting young English-speaking Canadians (TV and digital) on May 29 at CBC Glenn-Gould Studio in Toronto.
John Rooney has a long history within kids; television in Canada, starting in the late ‘90s working with YTV. Rising through the ranks, he became Director of Programming and was instrumental in shaping the Corus Kids & Family brands. Rooney successfully transitioned over to TELETOON and became their Director of Programming responsible for content strategy for all their brands, launching Cartoon Network in Canada. He has recently joined the TAAFI (Toronto Animation Arts Festival International) as Program Director for the TAAFI 2019 Festival, a three-day event held in Toronto each year. Currently, Rooney is working as a consultant advising various clients on content strategy, programming, development and curation. He has been a member of the YMA Awards advisory committee for several years.
Nominees of the English-language Awards of Excellence will be unveiled in early April. Submission for the 2019 edition are open until March 1st, 2019.
