Studio 100’s New ‘Butterfly Fairy Friends’ Take Flight with Little Airplane

Little Airplane Productions (Wonder Pets!, 3rd & Bird, P. King Duckling) is in development for The Butterfly Fairy Friends, an enchanting new 52 x 11’ animated series created by Studio 100 founders Hans Bourlon and Gert Verhulst. Aimed at girls ages 4-7, the series encourages a positive, upbeat perspective on life and promotes problem-solving and collaborative skills. The Butterfly Fairy Friends is the first project that Little Airplane has developed with Studio 100 and its founders, since it was acquired by them in December 2017.

Synopsis: Best friends Daisy, Rose and Iris found three magical flowers while exploring a cave at the edge of their town. When picked, the blooms transformed into wands that release pollen to attract three very special butterflies who land on the girls’ backs and become magical fairy wings. The girls keep the flowers in their hair and, when faced with a problem, they remove them to summon the butterflies. Transformed into the Butterfly Fairy Friends, they use their unique combination of magic and real-world skills to help out their friends and neighbors.

In each episode, an exciting new blend of magic and good old-fashioned girl power overcomes a tricky problem, whether it’s rescuing a boy stuck on a sled in an icy pool that’s starting to crack or saving an outdoor birthday party from a big rainstorm. The girls must also face a perilous new challenge from wicked, disgraced Queen Beejinx, who wants to steal the magic pollen in their wands to restore her power.

“We are thrilled to be working with Hans, Gert and the team at Studio 100 on this delightful new animation,” said Sharon Gomes, COO of Little Airplane. “Its three best friends are great role models for young girls, demonstrating the value of friendship and how combining everyone’s unique personalities and individual talents can help to overcome any challenge. Its global message and gorgeous visuals are sure to enchant children worldwide.”

The Butterfly Fairy Friends features an educational curriculum by Beth Richman Ed.M. to equip young children with key problem-solving skills and encourage collaboration, bravery, kindness and empathy and the pilot script was written by Phil Molloy.

Little Airplane will be presenting the show to broadcasters at MIFA in June.
