Happy Birthday Bettie! Pin-Up Queen Gets Animated in New Gas Money Series

Celebrating the birthday of rockabilly style icon and pin-up modeling pioneer Bettie Page (April 22, 1923), Burbank-based Gas Money Pictures has announced its newest animated series in development: Everyone Loves Bettie Page!

By day, Miss Page is a shy office professional at the fashion magazine The Agency in the heart of Modern City in post-WWII 1950’s America.

Her best friend helps her with her many zany schemes, as they struggle to keep their boss, Mr. Fitz, from losing The Agency‘s biggest clients. But when her watch alarm buzzes, her horn-rimmed glasses come off, and she heads to her photoshoot, posing for iconic Bettie Page pin-ups, which Mr. Fitz unknowingly publishes in his daddy’s magazine.

Mr. Fitz loves the pin-ups, but is so distracted by his own fumbling nature that he doesn’t realize Miss Page is his dream girl, Bettie Page.

Gas Money Pics. has just wrapped up final agreements for the project and is currently finishing the first three scripts, as well as negotiating voice talent. More information will be shared soon.

Born Betty Mae Page in Nashville, Tennessee, the future Bettie Page had a troubled upbringing and difficult family life. As a teenager, Page and her sisters found a passion for glamour, doing up their hair and makeup to emulate their favorite movie stars. She also spent a lot of time at the community center, learning to cook and sew (she would later make her own bikinis and costumes for shoots). After her first short marriage and earning a BA, a chance encounter with a hobbyist photographer in 1950 led to her first pin-up portfolio. Page’s modeling career soon took off. In 1955, she won “Miss Pinup Girl of the World” and appeared as the centerfold in Playboy‘s January issue. At the height of her popularity, her willingness to toy with the sexual taboos of the 1950s even sparked a Senate Committee investigation.

Page passed away in 2008, having resurged as a figure of cult fandom during the 1980s — fueled in part by her long absence from the public eye and strongly protected privacy. In addition to her image appearing on merchandise of all kinds, the model’s distinctive look has crossed over into comics, fashion, visual art, and inspired the fashions, video trends and music of some of the biggest modern pop stars — such as Beyonce, Katy Perry and Madonna. Page even inspired the design of the BD-3000 luxury droid in Star Wars: Episode III — known as the “Bettybot” in the art department at Skywalker Ranch.

Founded by James L. Bills and Paul C. Norman, Gas Money Pictures is an animation and production studio producing UHD content for broadcast and streaming platforms. Projects include Little Blue, Hollywould, C-084 and Attack of the 50 Foot Reel. www.gasmoneypictures.com.
