‘Hazbin Hotel’ Drops Lyric Video for Original Song “Poison”

Today, A24 Music and Prime Video shared the second single, “Poison,” from the highly anticipated adult animation series Hazbin Hotel. The high-energy pop track is written and produced by composers Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg, and features vocals by Blake Roman, who voices Angel Dust in the show.

Haft is a platinum-certified artist/singer/songwriter best known for being half of duo The Living Tombstone, which NME dubbed as “the Internet’s biggest gaming band” (40 billion-plus global streams), and whose original song “My Ordinary Life” is now RIAA-certified platinum. He released his solo EP, Bad Times, in 2023 to positive reviews. Haft is also a voiceover artist and a writer-director whose shorts have been featured in the A.V. Club and elsewhere.

Underberg is an Emmy-nominated songwriter/composer. He has written and produced music for TV series (Hailey’s on It!, Bizaardvark, Team Kaylie), TV movies (The J Team, Monster High, Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams) and pop artists (Twice, Stray Kids, Hailee Steinfeld).

The first season of Hazbin Hotel consists of eight episodes, with four episodes premiering on January 19, and two episodes rolling out weekly through February 2. The series will be available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Fans can continue to visit HazbinHotel.com to pre-order special packages that include exclusive Season One merchandise until January 12, when early access to the first two episodes will be available to stream on the A24 App one week before they release on Prime Video, along with a virtual Q&A event with creator Vivienne Medrano and special guests. They can listen to the first single, “Happy Day in Hell,” which debuted October 20, here.

Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie (Erika Henningsen), the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be “checking out” into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz) and their first test subject, adult-film star Angel Dust (Blake Roman), stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the “Radio Demon” (Amir Talai) reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality.

The voice cast also features Alex Brightman as Sir Pentious, Keith David as Husk and Kimiko Glenn as Niffty, with Christian Borle as Vox and Joel Perez as Valentino. Season 1 guest stars include Broadway veterans Darren Criss as Saint Peter, Jeremy Jordan as Lucifer Morningstar, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Carmilla Carmine, Patina Miller as Sera and Jessica Vosk as Lute.

Medrano serves as executive producer and directed all episodes. Joel Kuwahara and Dana Tafoya-Cameron, and Scott Greenberg (Season 1) also serve as executive producers. Hazbin Hotel is produced by A24 and FOX Entertainment’s Emmy-winning animation studio Bento Box Entertainment.
