‘Family Guy’ Joins Comedy Central’s Animation Lineup

The Griffins are coming to spread their irreverent primetime animated antics to another channel, with the news that Comedy Central will launch Family Guy on Labor Day. The Seth MacFarlane show, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary with no signs of slowing down, will join an adult animation block that includes South Park, Futurama and Beavis and Butt-head.

The rare network-to-cable licensing deal agreed between Disney Entertainment and the Paramount-owned network is non-exclusive, so fans can still catch Quahog’s most dysfunctional clan in new episodes on FOX (where it has moved to a mid-season premiere), while older seasons air on FX and FXX and Hulu remains the show’s exclusive streaming home.

Family Guy will land on Comedy Central with an all-day marathon on September 2 before it joins the primetime block on Tuesday, September 3.

Created by MacFarlane, Family Guy debuted in 1999 on FOX, and has since racked up numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series — only the second animated series in television history to receive such recognition. Most recently, Alex Borstein (voice of Lois Griffin) was nominated for Outstanding Character Voice-Over by the 76th Emmy Awards. Season 22 concluded in April of this year.

Family Guy is a 20th Television Animation production. Seth MacFarlane is creator and executive producer, as well as the voice of Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Brian Griffin and Glenn Quagmire. Alongside MacFarlane and Borstein, the series stars Seth Green (Chris Griffin), Mila Kunis (Meg Griffin), Arif Zahir (Cleveland Brown) and Patrick Warburton (Joe Swanson). Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin serve as executive producers and showrunners, while Steve Callaghan, Tom Devanney, Danny Smith, Kara Vallow, Mark Hentemann, Patrick Meighan and Alex Carter are executive producers.
