Crunchyroll Summons ‘Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom’ Trailer ahead of NYCC Sneak Peek

Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom

Crunchyroll is planning an anime-filled return to New York Comic Con, with a slate of panels celebrating long-running, fan-favorite series and all-new anime coming to Crunchyroll.

NYCC attendees will get a sneak peek at Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom, the upcoming theatrical film and the next chapter in the Overlord series. Director Naoyuki Ito and MADHOUSE Studio producer Kentaro Hashimoto will be on-site to take fans behind the scenes of the series theatrical debut before it arrives in U.S. theaters on November 8 (in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment). In anticipation of the NYCC activities, Crunchyroll revealed a new trailer today.

Synopsis:  After 12 years of playing his favorite MMORPG game, Momonga logs in for the last time only to find himself transported into its world playing it indefinitely. Throughout his adventures, his avatar ascends to the title of Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown.

Once prosperous but now on the brink of ruin, The Sacred Kingdom enjoyed years of peace after construction of an enormous wall protecting them from neighboring invasions. But, one day this comes to an end when the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth arrives with an army of villainous demi-humans.

Fearing invasion of their own lands, the neighboring territory of the Slane Theocracy is forced to beg their enemies at the Sorcerer Kingdom for help. Heeding the call, Momonga, now known as the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown, rallies the Sorcerer Kingdom and its undead army to join the fight alongside the Sacred Kingdom and the Slane Theocracy in hopes to defeat the Demon Emperor.

The film is directed by Ito from an original story by Overlord creator/author Kugane Maruyama, with character design by chief animation director Satoshi Tasaki, based on the light novel illustrations by so-bin, and features music by Shuji Katayama (Team-MAX). MADHOUSE is the animation studio.

Crunchyroll and A PLUS JAPAN also recently announced Lord of Nazarick — a turn-based roleplaying game based on the hit Overlord anime. Releasing this fall on Android and iOS devices, the game will bring mobile players to a fantasy world where magic and might clash, allowing fans to relive the anime through a fresh perspective as they lead their armies into epic isekai battle. Fans can pre-register for the game on the Google Play and App Store
