The 44th College Television Awards were held Saturday, April 5, recognizing excellence in student-produced programs from colleges and universities nationwide.

Open to undergraduate and graduate students, the annual College Television Awards are regarded as a valuable steppingstone to careers in television. Entries are judged by Television Academy members, emulating the Emmy Awards selection process.

Three projects are nominated in each of the seven categories, including Animation Series. Criteria for the College Television Awards reflects industry standards of excellence, imagination and innovation. Each winning project will receive a $3,000 cash prize and trophy.

This year’s winner of the Animation Series prize was Student Accomplice, a Brigham Young University project from director & writer Spencer Baird and producer Brielle Hansen. The short was awarded the Bronze Medal in Animation by the 2024 Student Academy Awards, and was nominated for best VFX in a student project by the VES Awards.

Synopsis: A driving test goes terrible wrong when a nervous teenage girl and her elderly driving examiner are hijacked by a bank robber, who compels the amateur wheeler to serve as getaway driver and outrun the police. Meanwhile, the unruffled examiner continues to assess her skills.

Student Accomplice was nominated alongside two projects from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD): Le Charade by Erika Totoro (director, producer & writer) and Time Flies by Morgan Eng (producer & writer) and LJ Burnett (director & writer).
