First Look: Netflix Rescues Genndy Tartakovsky’s ‘Fixed’ from the Dog House!

Netflix announced this morning that it will unleash Fixed, the new adult animated comedy feature from animation icon, five-time Emmy-winner Genndy Tartakovsky (Primal, Samurai Jack, Hotel Transylvania), on screens on Wednesday, August 13. The pic has been sniffing around for a forever home since being dropped by Warner Bros. in August of 2024.

Logline: From visionary director Genndy Tartakovsky comes Fixed, an adult animated comedy about Bull, an average, all-around good dog who discovers he’s going to be neutered in the morning! As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one last adventure with his pack of best friends as these are the last 24 hours with his balls! What could go wrong…?

The movie features the voice talents of Adam Devine, Katherine Hahn and  Idris Elba as a self-assured Boxer named Rocco, Bobby Moynihan as the goofy pal Lucky, and Fred Armisen as the wannabe influencer dachshund Fetch.

“I have been friends with the same group of four guys since high school,” Tartakovsky told Netflix’s TUDUM blog. “These guys make me laugh like nothing else, so I was thinking, ‘Can I translate this humor to animation?’ I love caricatured and exaggerated animation, so I knew the sensibility that I like to do and it was a matter of dialing [up] the amount of exaggeration. I think it started out as a rated-R Lady and the Tramp, then as we got into it, it naturally became more cartoon-y and specific to itself. I would say it began to really take shape as we were fortunate to hire some of the best animators working in 2D from around the world.”

The 2D animation style is eye-poppingly colorful and full of wild character reactions. “I love caricatured and exaggerated animation, so I knew the sensibility that I like to do and it was a matter of dialing [up] the amount of exaggeration. I think it started out as a rated-R Lady and the Tramp, then as we got into it, it naturally became more cartoon-y and specific to itself,” says Tartakovsky. “I would say it began to really take shape as we were fortunate to hire some of the best animators working in 2D from around the world.”

The voice cast features Adam DeVine (The Righteous Gemstones, Green Eggs and Ham) as Bull, Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (Luther, Knuckles), Kathryn Hahn (Bad Moms, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live, Thelma the Unicorn), Bobby Moynihan (SNL, DuckTales), Beck Bennett (SNL, Hamster & Gretel), Michelle Buteau (Survival of the Thickest) and River Gallo (Ponyboi).

Produced by Sony Pictures Animation (which previously delivered Netflix releases The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Vivo and Wish Dragon), the 2D-animated feature is directed by Tartakovsky, written by Tartakovsky and Emmy-winning Simpsons veteran Jon Vitti, from a story by Steve Greenberg, Rich Lufrano, Tartakovsky and Vitti. Michelle Murdocca (Open Season, Hotel Transylvania) is producer, with Christian Roedel (Monster Pets) as co-producer.
