Pixie Award Winners Are Announced

The Third Annual Pixie Awards, honoring outstanding work in animation, effect and motion-graphics, has unveiled its list of winners for the 2012 edition. The Pixies received a record number of submissions this year—750—and honored 213 entries from across the U.S. and Canada. 113 Gold Awards and 100 Platinum Awards were bestowed on top studios, brands and academic organizations.

Among the acclaimed firms receiving awards this year were: JJ Sedelmaier, Atomic Cartoons, Arcade Creative Group, Blind Visual Propaganda, Cookie Jar Ent., Animation Dog Studio, Blink Media Works, Creative Bube Tube, Fivestone Ent., Fox Sports Midwest, Little Fluffy Clouds, Go West Creative Group, Hinge Digital, Klei Ent., Mekanism, Peace Point Ent. Group, Radical Sheep Prod., Rainmaker, Smiley Guy Studios, The DAVE School, Sunrise Ent. Group, The Concept Farm, V! Studios, Titmouse and The Core.

Centers of academia honored include Asbury University, Ball State Univ., George Mason Univ., William & Mary, Georgia Tech Cable Network, Michigan State Univ., Syracuse Univ., Taylor Univ. and WGBH Educational Television.

The Pixie Awards is sponsored by the American Pixel Academy, a coalition of professionals and educators in the field of electronic movie pixels. The Pixies is one of a few competitions that provide entrants with scoring information and judges’ comments. Emmy and Clio Award-winner David E. Carter serves as director.
