Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced five additions to its Platinum Collection of animated features to be released on DVD and Blu-ray. These include such beloved classics as Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 and Beauty and the Beast. Available for a limited time, each multi-disc sets features rarely seen footage and a host of new bonus features.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney’s very first feature-length animated movie, will launch Disney’s worldwide BD-Live Network, a new technology that promises to connect family and friends with interactivity and ease of use from anywhere in the world. The BD-Live Network will be initially be offered in the U.S. only, with the first Platinum Edition Blu-ray release, Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition, available on October 7, 2008.
Fans can look forward to the Platinum Edition release of Pinocchio in the spring of 2009, followed by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the fall of 2009, and Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 in 2010. The Fantasia discs will also contain Destino, the animated film started by Walt Disney and famed surrealist painter Salvador Dali in 1946 and finished six decades later by producers Roy E. Disney and Baker Bloodworth, director Dominique Monfery and writer John Hench. Available on DVD for the first time, the film will be accompanied by an all-new feature-length documentary that examines the surprising partnership between Dali and Disney. Fans can also look forward to the Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition in the fall of 2010.
