MDeC’s ‘Saladin’ to Screen on Toon Goggles

Online kids channel Toon Goggles has signed an agreement with Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) to carry the animated action-adventure children’s series Saladin. The news was jointly announced by Toon Goggles creative director Brendan Pollitz, and Kamil Othman, MDeC’s VP of creative, multimedia.

“Malaysia is quickly becoming a global power in the animation industry,” said Pollitz. “Whether working with the studios or creating their own terrific IP’s like Saladin, MDeC has been leading the way in developing and producing some of the world’s finest animation. We are very proud to be the selected on-line kids TV channel to premiere Saladin in the U.S. and Canada.”

Toon Goggles will offer six episodes of Saladin, which charts the adventures of the heroic traveler for the 6 to 12-year-old audience. Inspired by the actual medieval statesman and warrior, Salah al-Din Yusuf Ibn Ayyub, the series introduces the young Saladin who leaves his home city of Damascus with his lifelong friend Tarik, in search of destiny and adventures.

Kamil Othman said, “With an International Emmy nomination under its belt, Saladin has become a shining beacon of the Malaysian skill, talent and technology in Creative Multimedia. We are excited that Toon Goggles has added “Saladin” to its children’s programming, which we hope will open doors for more local companies to gain international exposure and further strengthen Malaysia’s position as a world-class creative industry hub.”
