Spoofing Star Wars paid off for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment at the fifth annual TV DVD Awards. Family Guy: Blue Harvest was named Best Animated TV DVD during the ceremony, held Tuesday night at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Classic episodes of Sesame Street and Care Bears also garnered awards, while the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment release of Seinfeld: The Complete Series took Best in Show. The TV DVD Awards were presented by Home Media Magazine in cooperation with TVShowsOnDVD.com, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and The Hollywood Reporter.
A blue-ribbon panel of judges comprised of top DVD critics and journalists selected four finalists in each of the 13 categories from a field of more than 150 studio submissions of titles released between Oct. 1, 2007 and Sept. 30, 2008. Winners were determined by an online consumer vote conducted at HomeMediaMagazine.com, TVShowsOnDVD.com and TheDigitalBits.com.
Released by Genius Products, Sesame Street Old School: Volume 2 (1974-1979) received the award for Best 1970s/1980s Series, while Best Kidvid TV DVD went to The Care Bears: 25th Anniversary Gift Set from Lionsgate. The first season of the vfx-intensive, supernatural BBC series Torchwood won Best International TV DVD, ABC’s Lost: Season 3 picked up Best 2000s Series for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and NBC’s Heroes: Season 1 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment was named Best TV on Blu-ray. Seinfeld: The Complete Series was the only multiple award-winning title of the night, taking Best Complete-Series Set in addition to Best in Show.
