E3 Expands in 2009

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known to gamers and industry insiders as E3, is taking steps to recapture some of its former grandeur. Event co-producers the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and IDG World Expo announced that they are organizing a bigger expo for next year, one they hope will be a can’t-miss event like E3s in the past. However, recreational button mashers will be sad to hear that admission will still be limited to gaming professionals, retailers and members of the press. E3 2009 is set for June 2-4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

‘Video games are the fastest growing and most compelling sector of the entertainment industry, and this upgraded event will reflect the growth, innovation and excitement of our industry,’ says ESA CEO Michael D. Gallagher. ‘The breadth, scope and quality of the changes made to the show will make E3 the must-attend event of the year.’

ESA officials conducted research and concluded that changes were necessary to better meet the needs of both exhibitors and attendees. Modifications include increased booth sizes, larger audiences and an intensified focus on reinforcing the growth, innovation and entertainment value driving the computer and video-game industry. Organizers are expanding the list of companies eligible to participate, opening the show floor to more developers, publishers, qualified business partners and makers of video game hardware and peripherals.

Additional details, including registration, media credentialing and hotel and travel accommodations will be available in the next few weeks at www.e3expo.com.
