DIC Announces Post-MIP Int’l Toon Sales

DIC Ent. recently inked deals with top networks for international distribution of popular animated shows. Properties such as Super Duper Sumos, Madeline, Mary-Kate and Ashley: In Action and Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century have been picked up by broadcasters like Nickelodeon Asia, Fox Kids Italy, Cartoon Network Japan and ITV UK at this year’s MIP-TV conference.

In addition to the Disney International Pay TV deal, spanning five continents and covering 12 territories, DIC has finalized sales of DIC’s Incredible Movie Toons to broadcasters such as Super RTL (Germany), ITV (U.K.), Cartoon Network (Japan), Club RTL (Belgium), Mediatrade (Italy), Alter TV (Greece), YTV (Canada), Televisa (Mexico) and Anteve (Indonesia). Home video deals for Movie Toons were also closed with Prism (U.K.), TF1 Video (France), Eagle Pictures (Italy), Sum (Spain and Latin America), Shock (Australia) and ICTV (Ukraine).

DIC’s animation library continues to generate considerable TV and Home Video revenues for the company with sales to AB Groupe France (Mummies Alive, Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?), RTE Ireland (Mary-Kate and Ashley: In Action), Club RTL Belgium (Madeline, Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, Hurricanes), Alter TV Greece (Super Duper Sumos, Mary-Kate and Ashley: In Action, Madeline), Fox Kids Italy (Super Mario Adventures, Sonic the Hedgehog), TV Globo Brazil (Super Duper Sumos), Televisa Mexico (Mary-Kate and Ashley: In Action, Super Duper Sumos, Madeline, Sonic the Hedgehog), Anteve TV Indonesia (Carmen Sandiego, Sherlock Holmes, Mummies Alive) and M-Net South Africa (Carmen Sandiego, Evolution).

Additional titles from DIC’s catalogue have also been recently licensed for home video purposes by Alfadedis Italy (Madeline, Lost in Paris), SAV Spain (Action Man), Fremantle U.K. (Sabrina the Animated Series), Metrodome U.K. (Super Duper Sumos), Prooptiki Greece (Evolution, Sabrina the animated series, Swamp Thing, Sonic Christmas Blast), and TFI Video France (Tex Avery, Sabrina the Animated Series.)

Following a strong premiere on Nickelodeon’s SLAM! block in the U.S., Speed Racer X and Classic Speed Racer were purchased by Cartoon Network Latin America, Nickelodeon Asia, ABC Broadcasting Australia, Ambang Malaysia and Fairmead South Africa. DIC is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with rights holder Speed Racer Enterprises over a lapsed option to distribute new episodes of Speed Racer X.
