More Broadcast Deals for Henson’s Sid

The Jim Henson Co. has extended the reach of its animated preschool series Sid the Science Kid throughout North and South America. The latest broadcast deals have been signed with Discovery Kids Latin America and Canadian public broadcasters TV Ontario, SCN-Saskatchewan and Knowledge in British Columbia.

Sid the Science Kid is an educational, CG-animated television series that employs comedy to promote exploration, discovery and science readiness among preschoolers. The animation is created using the Henson Digital Puppetry Studio, a proprietary technology that allows the company’s performers to puppeteer and voice digitally animated characters in real time.

The series of 40 half-hour episodes is co-produced by The Jim Henson Company and KCET/Los Angeles for PBS KIDS. It recently debuted in the U.S. as part of the PBS KIDS preschool programming block. Sam Ewing, who was recently appointed head of international sales, new programming at The Jim Henson Co., will officially introduce the series to international television broadcasters at next month’s MIPCOM Jr. market. Also on the table are Dinosaur Train, which involves a colorful steam engine that carries all kinds of dinosaurs to the many prehistoric eras, and The Skrumps, an online property ready to make the leap to television.
