British children’s channel CBBC has acquired TV-Loonland’s new CG-animated comedy series, Leon. The network has pre-purchased 52 three-minute episodes and holds exclusive TV and ‘catch-up’ rights in the U.K. The co-production between TV-Loonland, Studio Hari and France 3 debuted at MIPCOM this week and is expected to be ready for delivery before Christmas 2009. TV-Loonland holds all rights worldwide.
Inspired by classic slapstick, squash and stretch animation, Leon is a comical portrayal of the world’s unluckiest lion. Leon has a true hunter instinct and plots tirelessly to track everything that moves, but the prey often becomes the predator and the chase always spirals out of control. Despite the madcap mishaps and blunders, the poor lion never gives up in his quest to be the apex predator of the savannah.
Leon is the second animated property from French Producer Studio Hari to be picked-up by the U.K. pubcaster. The short-form series The Owl was previously picked up by BBC, where it has enjoyed ratings success. Also distributed by TV-Loonland, The Owl is currently seen in more than 180 countries worldwide and also has a major presence on DVD, on the web, on mobile devices and across a number of digital platforms.
