Star Wars saga characters C-3PO and Padm’ Amidala will make their Star Wars: The Clone Wars debuts in Friday night’s episode, ‘Destroy Malevolence.’ Padm’ and C-3PO are taken hostage by General Grievous, leaving Anakin and Obi-Wan to save the senator and complete the destruction of the Malevolence in this final act of a three-episode arc premiering on Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) on Cartoon Network.
The new episode of the animated series from Lucasfilm Animation offers a glimpse at some unexplored sides of the Padm’ character, voiced by actress Catherine Taber (American Werewolf in Paris, Crank Yankers). Taber says the installment was fun to do because it marks the first time in the animated series that her character and Anakin Skywalker are physically together.
‘In the movie, they only interacted via hologram, so this is a chance to see [them] together, fighting side by side,’ Taber says. ‘It’s sort of the Star Wars version of a date, and it’s always really fun to see these characters interact. Their secret relationship is so central to the larger Star Wars story, and every time they’re together it gives us a glimpse into what’s to come and why.’
While the Star Wars: The Clone Wars feature didn’t break any records at the box office, the television series has been a big hit for Cartoon Network thus far. The Oct. 6 hour-long premiere was the cable outlet’s most-watched series premiere in history, grabbing top ratings with kids 2-11, tweens and teens in the 9 p.m.-10 p.m. timeslot among all major kids networks. The series chronicles the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Ahsoka Tano and other favorite characters as they struggle against the dark side during the divisive Clone Wars.
