Intel To Accelerate CG production

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that chip manufacturer Intel promises to speed up production of high-quality computer graphics created on Intel-based systems by 25%-40% via a new technology unveiled at its annual hardware and software developer forum in San Jose, Calif.

The “hyperthreading” technology reportedly makes PCs think they are running on two processors rather than one, better facilitating multitasking on Pentium 4 systems and Xeon processor-based workstations.

Intel announced that production outfits utilizing Intel processors, which include DreamWorks, WETA Digital, Walt Disney Feature Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks, can begin reaping the benefits of hyperthreading later this year.
