If you’ve ever watched The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public or half a dozen other series developed by David E. Kelley, you’re no doubt familiar with the signature "you stinka!" end tag.
Seeing that granny knocked off her rocker is funny the first 20 times, but things tend to get a bit stale after six years. That’s why David E. Kelley Prods. enlisted 3dBob Prods. to complete two animated variations to air this season immediately following programs like the new legal dramedy Girls Club.
The new 3.5-second tags will tell a sort of two-part story using CG animation and an energetic, roller-hockey playing granny. These tags will rotate randomly with the original.
The first of the new tags debuted on Oct. 6 after ABC’s The Practice. It shows Granny practicing hockey moves in her living room when a little boy body-checks her from behind. With Granny down, the boy takes a slap at the camera.
Granny gets her revenge in Victory, the follow-up tag. This time the spry senior plows into the boy, knocking off his helmet and sending it hurling toward the camera to reveal the production company’s logo printed inside.
Kelley and 3dBob previously team up for the series finale of Ally McBeal. The digital animation facility created CG miniature versions of former NY Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton to bust a move with Ally’s hallucinatory dancing baby.
