Jonah Slips To #11, Pokemón 4Ever Has Limited Bow

Despite opening wider over the weekend, Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie saw a 38% decrease in ticket sales and dropped to the #11 spot, according to boxofficemojo.com. However, with a two-week cumulative of just over $11 million, the film is already on its way to recouping its $14 million production budget. The indie CG family flick also enjoyed a bigger opening than Disney’s live-action fantasy Tuck Everlasting, which took in a disappointing $5.5 million over the weekend.

Overall, it was a lackluster weekend at the boxoffice. Even the reigning champ, Red Dragon, saw a 51.8% trail-off in its second week as a number of new contenders entered the ring with little fanfare. Only Fox Searchlight’s $8 million Brown Sugar had a stellar debut with receipts of just over $11 million and a third place showing.

Dimension’s Pokemón 4Ever brought in $675, 000 in very limited release, debuting in only 249 theaters. The latest installment in the animated saga just barely broke the top 20, landing in the #18 spot.
