Riverdeep Takes Liberty’s Kids Interactive

Riverdeep Inc. has released an interactive CD-ROM to complement DIC’s new animated series Liberty’s Kids, airing on PBS. Marketed under The Learning Company brand, the title provides an entertaining way for kids to learn about key events of the American Revolution.

Like the series, the Liberty’s Kids software immerses kids 8-12 in the colonial adventures of two young reporters, Sarah Phillips and James Hiller, as they get swept up in the drama of the American Revolution. Beginning at Ben Franklin’s print shop in Philadelphia, players investigate seven historical events, each leading to a replayable, interactive adventure in pursuit of the latest “scoop” for the front page of Franklin’s Philadelphia Gazette.

In addition to learning about a defining period in American History, players will build basic journalism skills as they collect information from several sources, including historical figures like George Washington, Abigail Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Users can then create their own front-page newspaper story, complete with headline and photo.

The Liberty’s Kids CD-ROM is now available for Windows and Macintosh at the suggested retail price of $24.95. An Enhanced Educator Version will be introduced late this year.
