Following a successful MIPCOM showing, nonprofit educational organization Sesame Workshop continues to extend its programming to major broadcasters around the world.
Sesame Street will return to Taiwan after an absence of more than a decade. YOYO Channel, Eastern Televisions childrens channel, will begin a three-year run of Sesame Workshop programming including a fall launch of Emmy winners Sesame Street and Sagwa, The Chinese Siamese Cat.
Sesame Workshop celebrates its 30th anniversary in Mexico with the renewal of Plaza Sesamo, a co-production with Televisa. The new season launches April 2003.
Elmos World will debut on U.K.s Channel 5 this Dec. It will also show up on Italys RAI beginning first quarter 2003.
In addition, Sesame Workshop announced plans to team with Brazils Canal Futura to co-produce an updated version of Vila Sésamo, the first Sesame Street international co-production, which premiered in 1972. The new series will introduce Muppet characters developed specifically for Brazil and will air as a daily strip on Canal Futura in spring 2004. Canal Futura also licensed season two of Sesame Workshops animated fantasy adventure Dragon Tales.
