Veggies Sprout Up In Theaters

Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie opens in theaters nationwide today, marking the first big screen outing for Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, Archibald Asparagus, Laura Carrot and the whole gang from the hugely successful family home video series.

Written and directed by creators Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, this first U.S. independent CG feature to get wide theatrical release combines clever, catchy musical numbers and a sly wit to tell the story of the prophet Jonah and deliver a message of biblical importance.

Artisan’s F.H.E Pictures is putting Jonah on 1,000 screens this weekend, hoping the franchise can break out of its faith-based niche and find acceptance among general audiences. The filmmakers are confident that the quality of the story, the music, the acting and the animation will make the film a whale of a hit with families across the board. And with zero family film competition at the box office, Jonah should do swimmingly.
