Miramax Greenlights Third Bionicle Feature

Some toys have all the luck. Even before their first two films have been released, Lego Media’s best-selling Bionicle toys have got the go-ahead for their third outing from Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein. Variety reports that the third installment of the toys’ CG-animated adventures will be co-produced by Miramax Films in partnership tih lego Media.

The first project, Bionicle: Mask of Light will be released as a DVD project on September 16th, while the second installment is still in development, with a released planned for late 2005/early 2006.

“Bionicle’s rich storylines and complex characters really capture its audience’s attention,” Weinstein says in the article. “As millions of fans around the world will attest, once you’re immersed in Bionicle, there’s no turning back!”

The co-producing deal gives Miramax more involvement I the creative development of the movie with Lego and the original production team at Los Angeles-based Creative Capers Entertainment. A behind-the-scenes look at the first Bionicle movie will be featured in the upcoming October issue of Animation Magazine.
