Tripping the Rift, Creature Comforts Tops at Cartoons on the Bay

The new Bill Plympton short Guard Dog, Sci-Fi Channel/Cinegroupe’s 3D series Tripping the Rift and Aardman Animation/ITV1 series Creature Comforts were some of the high-profile projects honored at the 8th edition of the Cartoons on the Bay Festival in Positano, Italy, last week. Headed by Linda Simenksy, senior director of children’s program at PBS, the international jury of the Pulcinella Awards selected the following after viewing the 35 series and TV specials in the competition this year:

Special Mention for Humor:

Guard Dog, directed by Bill Plympton (Traditional, U.S.A.)

Special Mention for Art Direction:

Pimpa’s Magic Day, directed by Francesco Tullio Altan (Traditional, Rai Film, Italy)

Best Short:

The God, directed by Konstantin Bronzit (CG, Russia)

Best TV Special:

Penguin Behind Bars, directed by Janet Perlman (Traditional, National Film Board, Canada)

Best Pilot:

Stefi’s World, directed by Alessandro Belli (CG/Traditional, Rai Fiction, Italy)

Best TV Series, All Audiences:

Corneil & Bernie, directed by Albert Pereira Lazaro (CG/Traditional, Millimages, France)

Best TV Series, Infants:

Franny’s Feet, directed by Aaron Linton (CG/Traditional, Decode Entertainment, Canada)

Best European Program:

Creature Comforts, directed by Richard Goleszowski (Stop Motion, Aardman Animation, U.K.)

Best Character of the Year, Best TV Series for Children:

Zoe Kezako, directed by Fabrice Fouquet (CG, Sparkling, TF1, Teletoon, Tps Jeunesse, France)

Best Program of the Year, Best TV Series for Teens and Adults:

Tripping the Rift, directed by Bernie Denk (CG, Cinegroupe)
