Khaki Jones has been promoted to vice president, original series, for Cartoon Network, it was announced today by Bob Higgins, senior VP of programming and development for Cartoon Network’s kids businesses.
Jones will be responsible for overseeing the creative direction of more than 12 of the network’s newest original animated series. She also will serve as the network liaison and provide creative guidance to the creators of existing original programs as well as represent each show to the network’s various departments. Formerly senior director of original animation, Jones is based in Atlanta and will continue to report directly to Higgins.
A 17-year veteran of Turner Broadcasting System, Jones was one of Cartoon Network’s original employees when the 24-hour all-animation network launched in 1992. Her initial duties involved scheduling the company’s vast library of Hanna-Barbera, MGM and pre-1948 Warner Bros. cartoons into a daily lineup and planning strategic “stunting” events. She then transitioned into writing and producing for the network’s first original series, Space Ghost Coast to Coast (1994).
Soon after, she ventured into development of subsequent original programming, including Dexter’s Laboratory in 1995, Cow and Chicken in 1997 and Ed, Edd ’n’ Eddy in 1999, among others. Jones has also overseen development of such Cartoon Network hits as Home Movies (2001), Codename: Kids Next Door (2002) and Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law (2003). Her latest project is Craig McCracken’s highly anticipated Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends from acclaimed animator Craig McCracken
