Harmony Gold will be offering the animated feature Casshan: Robot Hunter based on the original Japanese TV series this year at NATPE. This new project comes on the heels of the highly successful live-action theatrical release Casshern in Japan through Shoshiku. DreamWorks Pictures recently announced that its acquiring the U.S. rights to the film. Tatsunoko Productions produced the Casshan: Robot Hunter animated feature, which will also be available in a series of four half-hour episodes. Harmony Gold has worldwide rights to the property excluding Japan.
The feature incorporates the fantastic elements of science fiction and the reality-based issues of moral ambiguity and internal struggle. The hero Cassahan must set aside his personal concern, devoting himself fully to saving the world. He fights a formidable army of rebellious robots who were originally designed to protect civilization from an ecological cataclysm.
