DIC Ent. has promoted Nancy Fowler (formerly Bassett) to the newly created position of president, worldwide consumer products. Fowler joined DIC’s ranks in 2002 and most recently served as senior VP of worldwide consumer products.
In her new role, Fowler will actively participate in the acquisition of new children’s properties to facilitate the development of licensing and merchandising programs. She will also continue to oversee the development and implementation of licensing and merchandising programs for the company’s high-profile entertainment and lifestyle children’s brands, as well as spearheading DIC’s global brand management team and the company’s network of licensees around the world.
Fowler handled the 2003 worldwide re-launch of the Strawberry Shortcake brand, which the company says has generated approximately $700 million worldwide through 300 global licensees. This year, Fowler and her team will prep for the introduction of the revamped tween property, Trollz, an update of the classic Troll doll that became a multi-billion dollar brand. For the 2005 back-to-school rollout, Fowler secured partners including Hasbro, Scholastic, Warner Home Video, Mamiye Bros., Ubisoft and One World Interactive, as well as more than 50 other licensees in North America. In addition, she manages the licensing and merchandising programs for high-profile brands such as Madeline.
Before coming to DIC, Fowler spent eight years at Viacom Consumer Products, the licensing division of Paramount Pictures Corp. During her tenure at Paramount she held various roles, departing as VP of worldwide licensing, a newly created position for Viacom Consumer Products. She briefly relocated to New York for Viacom, acting as interim managing director of Hamilton Projects, and helping to transition the South Park/Comedy Central merchandising business to Viacom Consumer Products’ Los Angeles-based operations.
In addition to Strawberry Shortcake and Trollz, DIC’s toon properties include Inspector Gadget, Sabrina, Madeline, Liberty’s Kids, Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros. and Super Duper Sumos.
