No big tech confab would be complete without a new high-tech model from the sharp minds at Apple, so we weren’t surprised that Apple unveiled its slick new Mighty Mouse this past week (in time for SIGGRAPH. In case you have been vacationing in Antarctica, you have probably seen images of the dandy Mighty Mouse or played with it at an Apple Store near you. The slick little gizmo goes for $49, and features a Scroll Ball that allows users to move anywhere inside a document, without lifting a finger.
This new offering from the house of Jobs features touch-sensitive technology that is concealed under the top shell and offers the programability of a four-button mouse in a single-button design. The PC-compatible Mighty Mouse offers 360-degree scrolling capability, thanks to its Scroll Ball, positioned to roll smoothly under just one finger. Users can explore all their files–pan images in iPhoto, view timelines in iMovie HD and Final Cut Pro, traverse bars in Garage Band and Logic Pro–all using one solo hand and the helpful new Mighty.
Apple engineers have added force-sensing buttons on either side of Mighty Mouse that allow users to squeeze the mouse between the thumb and finger, activating Mac OS X Tiger Dashboard, Exposé or a whole host of other, customizable features–instantly.
