Astro Boy Teaser Unleashed

Moviefone has posted an exclusive teaser trailer for Astro Boy, the second CG-animated feature from Imagi Animation Studios, the company behind the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise reboot, TMNT. Based on the classic manga and anime property created by legendary ‘god of manga’ Osamu Tezuka in the 1950s, sci-fi/adventure pic is slated to arrive in theaters in October of 2009 through Summit.

Directed by David Bowers (Flushed Away), Imagi’s Astro Boy tells the story of a young robot with incredible powers who sets out on an adventure-filled journey in search of his identity and destiny. The movie is produced by Maryann Garger and boasts a voice cast that includes Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage, Kristen Bell, Nathan Lane, Bill Nighy, Eugene Levy and Donald Sutherland. Timothy Harris (Kindergarten Cop, Trading Places) wrote the screenplay.

Based in Los Angeles and Hong Kong, Imagi is also busy at work on Gatchaman, a feature-length adaptation of the classic anime TV series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, which debuted in the 1970s and is better known in the U.S. as Battle of the Planets or G-Force. Imagi’s CG update is being directed by Kevin Munroe (TMNT), and is expected to open in 2010.
