Warner Bros. continues to feed fanboys new footage of Watchmen, the highly anticipated feature film based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. A new trailer has hit the web, revealing more gritty superhero action from Zack Snyder, director of 300 and the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake. Watch the Watchmen below.
The Hugo Award-winning Watchmen was originally published by DC Comics in 1986. The story is set in a time when superheroes have been outlawed and revolves around a group of caped crusaders who struggle with their own personal demons while trying to avert a nuclear war between the United States and Russia. The movie’s cast includes Patrick Wilson (Lakeview Terrace) and Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children) as Nite Owl and Rorschach, respectively. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Supernatural) plays The Comedian, and Malin Akerman (27 Dresses) slips into spandex as Silk Specter. Carla Gugino (Sin City) is Sally Jupiter, the original Silk Spectre, and Matthew Goode is billionaire retired superhero Ozymandias. Billy Crudup (The Good Shepherd) appears as John Osterman and provides the voice of the invincible Dr. Manhattan, a character created with CG animation.
The Warner Bros. pic is produced by Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Deborah Snyder, with Jessica Goodman overseeing for co-financer Legendary Pictures. The studio has set the release date for March 6, 2009, despite a lawsuit filed by 20th Century Fox over rights to the material. The case is set to go to trial on January 6, 2009.
