TV Academy Examines Diversity In Animation

Those who live in the Los Angeles area can check out a special program being presented tonight (Nov. 12) by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Diversity Committee. ‘Diversity In Animation: Beyond The Color Bars’ will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif.

A discussion of diversity from the drawing board to distribution, the program will feature a panel discussion with a group of professionals who have made significant contributions to raising the awareness of diversity through animation. Special guests include Wilmer Valderrama, star of Playhouse Disney’s Handy Manny; Jorge R. Gutierrez, creator and exec producer of El Tigre; Lisa Henson, co-CEO of The Jim Henson Co.; Brown Johnson, president of animation at Nickelodeon and MTVN; Ramsey Naito, VP of long-form development at Cartoon Network; Bruce Smith, president of Jambalaya Studios; Nancy Kanter, senior VP of Playhouse Disney; and Reginald Hudlin, writer/exec producer of BET Animation’s Black Panther.

The event is hosted by Nickelodeon and MTV Networks Kids & Family Group. Press Check-in is 6:15p.m., with arrivals beginning at 6:30p.m. A VIP Reception will be held at 7 p.m. Nickelodeon Animation Studio is located at 231 W. Olive Ave. in Burbank.
