The Visual Effects Society (VES) is now accepting entries for its first-ever Student Award, sponsored by Autodesk. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 5, 2008, and the winning student will receive the award live at the 7th Annual VES Awards Show, taking place on Feb. 21, 2009 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The Student Award will honor outstanding achievement in visual effects on any project created by a student or group of students while attending an accredited school. Qualified students at schools all over the world are encouraged to send in their best work. The winning student will be provided with free airfare from anywhere in the world and two nights’ accommodation to attend the show. Rules and procedures can be found at www.vesawards.com.
‘We are extremely happy that Autodesk helped make the Student Award a reality for our next show,’ says Eric Roth, executive Director of VES. ‘Autodesk has not only been a world leader in digital content creation, they’ve also been a great supporter of VES over the years.
The annual VES Awards show honors outstanding visual effects in film, television, animation, commercials, special venue projects and video games. Last year’s event attracted more than 1,000 visual effects artists and celebrities as the VES honored Steven Spielberg with its Lifetime Achievement Award. The 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to legendary producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, while VFX guru Phil Tippett picks up the Georges Melies Award for his pioneering work in the field.
