Disney’s animated Bolt was edged out of second place by Quantum of Solace last weekend, but the Thanksgiving holiday saw the 3-D action-comedy rise a notch to No. 2 in its second week. The pic made slightly more than it did in its opening frame, pulling in roughly $26.6 million for a two-week total of approximately $66.8 million. The Warner Bros./New Line comedy Four Christmases opened in the top spot with an estimated $31.7 million.
As expected, the teen vampire thriller Twilight took a steep dive after sucking nearly $70 million out of it built-in audience last weekend. Based on a popular series of books, the film from Summit Ent. dropped down to No. 3 with an estimated $26.3 million contributing to a worldwide gross of about $129.5 million.
The James Bond flick Quantum of Solace from Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures is the Fall’s biggest success story with more than $450 million worldwide so far. The followup to the mega hit Casino Royale took in roughly $19.5 million domestically over the weekend to finish in fourth place.
Australia from 20th Century Fox got off to a slow start, debuting at No. 5 with an estimated domestic take of $14.8 million. The $130 million sweeping period epic from Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann has made just $25 million worldwide despite the star power of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.
DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa dropped out of the top five, but also benefited from the holiday period. The sequel earned approximately $14.5 million over the weekend, bringing its worldwide gross to about $231.7 million. Its predecessor finished its theatrical run with $532.6 million in 2005.
