Warner Bros. has put in-house producer Dan Lin on the task of developing animation icons Tom and Jerry into a CG / live-action feature along the lines of Alvin and the Chipmunks.
According to Variety, Lin will develop an origin story for the feature that explains how the constantly warring cat and mouse first met. Eric Gravning, whose credits include scripts set up with Ron Howard and Walden Media, will write the script.
The trade’s report also states WB is developing other Hanna-Barbera properties for the big screen, including Robert Rodriguez’s version of The Jetsons and producer Donald De Line’s Yogi Bear.
The characters’who starred in 114 animated shorts between 1940 and 1960’last came to the big screen in 1992, for the feature-length cartoon Tom and Jerry: The Movie.”
