The Nicolas Cage sci-fi thriller Knowing topped the box office, handily beating the week’s other top new releases.
Knowing took in $24.8 million in its first three days of release, coming in first ahead of the Paramount/DreamWorks comedy I Love You, Man with $18 million and the $14.4 million taken in by the romantic thriller Duplicity, which stars Julia Roberts and Clive Owen.
Last weekend’s champ, Disney’s Race to Witch Mountain, came in fourth with $13 million, followed by the VFX-heavy graphic novel adaptation Watchmen, with $6.7 million.
Focus Features’ animated stop-motion feature Coraline landed in the top ten for the seventh consecutive week, taking the No. 10 spot with a weekend gross of $2.1 million and a domestic total of $72.8 million.
Animation makes a big return to the box office next weekend with the wide release of DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens 3-D.
