On Saturday, September 5, the Gnomon School of Visual Effects will present an evening of events related to Focus Features’ upcoming film, 9, about a group of stitchpunk ragdolls fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. During ‘The Making of ‘9”, director Shane Acker and animation director Joe Ksander will go over how the feature was created with incredible efficiency, and discuss the design constraints the team faced and how that affected their approach to production and character animation. Occuring before the film’s September 9 release, the event will serve as a truly special sneak peak of what 9 has to offer.
Following this presentation, Gnomon will open ‘The Art of ‘9” at the Gnomon Gallery, featuring production art from the three-and-a-half year production effort which involved artists from Europe, Canada and the U.S. Spanning early conceptual designs through to final frames, the collection includes work by notable artists George Hull, Patrick Awa, Kevin Chen, Khang Le and Bruno Gentile.
The event, which kicks off with a meet and greet at 6 p.m. (‘Making Of’ discussion begins at 6:30 p.m., gallery opening at 8 p.m.), is free to attend, but RSVPs are requested. To reserve a space visit the Gnomon website: http://www.gnomonschool.com/?p=847 .
