Clone Wars, Venture Bros. Lead Video Releases

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker charge into video stores alongside Dean and Hank Venture in this week’s animated releases.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars — The Complete Season Two (Warner Bros., $44.98 DVD, $59.99 Blu-ray) collects all 22 episodes of the show’s second season, including plenty of bounty hunter action and bonus features such as behind-the-scenes featurettes, a 68-page production journal of sketches and concept art. The Blu-ray set also includes a feature called The Jedi Temple Archives, an extensive database of special effects footage, early concept art, 3-D character and object turnarounds and early animation.

Also out this week is The Venture Bros.: Season 4, Vol. 1 (Warner Bros., $23.98). In addition to collecting the first eight episodes of the season, the DVD release includes deleted scenes.

Several major anime series are getting new releases this week, including Fullmetal Alchemist: Season 3 (FUNimation, $49.98), Naruto Uncut: Season 4, Vol. 1 (VIZ Media, $49.95), One Piece Season 3: Third Voyage (FUNimation, $49.98) and Trigun: Complete Collection (FUNimation, $49.98).

Young ones’ fare includes the release of Cartoon Rarities: Aesop’s Fables Collection (Alpha Home Entertainment/Gotham Distribution, $15.96) and Thomas & Friends: Best Tales on the Tracks (HIT Entertainment, $29.98).

And on the live-action end, comic-book fans will want to check out the documentary Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods (Sequart, $19.98), while Blu-ray owners can upgrade to high-definition their Alien Anthology (Fox, $139.99 Blu-ray).

Lastly, there’s Back to the Future: The 25th Anniversary Trilogy (Universal, $49.98 DVD, $78.98 Blu-ray), collecting all three of Robert Zemeckis’ time-travel films for the first time in a high-def format and featuring new bonus features including footage of actor Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly.
