Hungary’s Kecskemet Animation Film Festival is celebrating its 10th edition this year, and is seeking submissions by March 11 of European-made feature films and TV specials.
The festival is set for June 15-19 in the city of Kecskemet, whose association with animation goes back forty years to the founding of Pannonia Filmstudio.
The festival is held in conjunction with the Festival of European Animated Feature Films and TV-Specials, which showcases European-made animations.
Previous editions of the festival featured as guests animator John Halas, Italian animation historian Giannalberto Bendazzi, Annecy’s Nicole Salomon, Russian animator Yuri Norstein, Borivoj Dovniković Bordo, Priit Pärn, Phil Mulloy and Co Hoedeman.
This year’s festival celebrates animation with music, focusing on the soundtracks of animated films. Normand Roger, a Canadian music composer with several Oscar nominations and awards, will introduce the KAFF audience to the relationship of animated film and the soundtrack in the framework of a presentation accompanied by film screenings.
Another selection, titled “Back to the Homeland,” will offer pieces from the life work of emigrant Hungarian animation creators, such as John Halas, George Pal, Jean Image and Peter Foldes.
The festival also will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Kecskemetfilm Studio, with a showing of its films.
