Disney Hires Writer for Long-Developing ‘King of the Elves’

King of the Elves, an animated adaptation of a Philip K. Dick story that has been in development for years at Disney, is apparently on again.

According to a report in Variety, the studio has hired Michael Markowitz to work on the script for the film, which is being overseen by Bolt co-writer and co-director Chris Williams. Chuck Williams and Disney-Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter are producers on the movie.

The film is about a band of elves and one dwarf who name as their king a human who saves them from a troll. Dick’s original story of the same name was first published in 1963.

Markowitz’s credits include multiple TV series, including the animated series Duckman, and the upcoming feature film Horrible Bosses.

The trade reports that the film was first announced in 2008 and is being eyed for a holiday 2013 release.
