DreamWorks Nears Netflix Deal, Wins Copyright Trial

The deal machine is working overtime at DreamWorks Animation, which is reportedly close to a streaming content deal with Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter and Bloomberg, the deal would replace one DreamWorks has in place with HBO that runs through 2014. However, HBO may offer to terminate the deal early to allow the DreamWorks-Netflix partnership to get a head start.

In other DreamWorks news, a jury has decided in the studio’s favor a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by a writer who claims Kung Fu Panda was stolen from a similar pitch he had made to the studio. The  jury took three days to decide that the studio did not steal writer Terence Dunn’s 2001 pitch for the film.
