  1. What a sorry mess.

It totally misses the point and style of the subject matter. The world is over-rendered, pushing it into that horrific uncanny-valley territory. The camera is pointlessly flying around the place as is typical in the “no limits” world of mo-cap. The motion looks floaty, empty and weightless in that typical CG/Mo-cap manner. The character’s look totally dead and lacking any soul, as would be expected with a film technique that tries to limit human involvement at every possible opportunity. The facial movements lack any personality whatsoever.

The voice acting seemed pretty good. The sound design and music were nice. That’s really the only positive thing I can say about it.

It looks horrible. What a wasted opportunity. This film should have been made by ANIMATORS, not “mo-cap” people (whatever they are called)… It should actually have been made in 2D Drawn animation in a style that would bring Herge’s drawing style to life.

Hollywood totally missing the point, as usual. Saddening.

  2. Also – This article describes the film as “Motion Capture Animation”. That is not what it is… This is a “Motion Capture” film… There is so little Animation involved in making a film like this that it doesn’t deserve that title.

The Academy agree with this… Though it took them long enough to do so. This is NOT an animated film… It’s a motion-capture film.
