Just when we thought things were going well for stop-motion animated movies, Deadline.com reports that Disney has shut down production on Henry Selick’s upcoming new project. According to the website, Selick (the Oscar-nominated helmer of beloved films such as Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach) will have the option to shop the project to other studios.
Selick’s film would have been the first for his newly created studio Cinderbiter, which is located in northern California and has hired Pixar stars such as artist Lou Romano in its top ranks. The new project, which was slated for a Halloween 2013 release, “wasn’t coming together in a manner that pleased the studio,” according to Disney reps.
Selick is also attached to direct the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s ghoulish children’s book The Graveyard Book.

Typical Disney, only interested in the money and not the art or creativity!
Lets hope Selick makes this movie and pokes Disney in their eye!
Typical Henry…The question is does Henry know his market/audience. No question he has awesome visual sense… remember that all of Night Mare and James were completely set up on every level of pre pro by Tim and then handed to Henry… so on the market and audience end… it is a big hmmmmm! He fires those that don’t agree… or try to help…?
Coming from a company that is all about market awareness…Disney… look at Henry’s numbers on his own production… “Monkeybone”… Box Office Mojo numbers… cost 75M… Worldwide gross 7.6M… not good numbers. “Coraline” did better but still not great for all the marketing dollars that were put behind that one.
Henry does his best work with someone like Tim leading the way. Maybe he needs to build the ultimate team?
May be so Mr Happy Dingo but Disney are still stinkers!
Only saying that if Henry wants to kick ass he is going to need to get off the ego couch and create a TEAM… Obviously we both know Disney and Henry are way to different to see eye to eye. This industry is small and Henry’s numbers don’t really look good to the “Big Fish”. When creative folks have no idea of how to incorporate business they are doomed. I do wish him luck and would like to see him team up with the right folks… and yes I am a Happy Dingo! Not going to argue anything about Disney… I think that we all know! Again reputation works both ways. John Carter From Mars?
