BRB Internacional and Maya Studio are working together to produce HighSkull, a new animated series based on the popular characters from the brand Calaveritas (which means “Little Skulls” in Spanish) created by Javi Molner. The production will be based at Screen 21, BRB’s Barcelona-based studio, which will oversee the transition of the unique-looking skull-faced property.
The first Calaveritas collection based on characters from Star Trek will be introduced this fall, following the co-branding accord reached this summer between Maya Studio and U.S. TV channel CBS. The fashion chain store Zara has just launched a T-shirt line on a global level bearing Calaveritas images.
Carlos Biern, CEO of BRB Internacional, said, “We’re very excited about launching a television series based on Calaveritas, a fresh brand that is modern and representative of the very finest, groundbreaking, Spanish design that is already successful in many countries and that has a special touch of humor which is very appreciated by the audience that most consumes internet video content: teenagers.”
Javi Molner, CEO of Maya Studio, said, “For me it’s an honor that a company as BRB would be interested in our project. We’ve known each other for many years now and we know the quality that permeates all of the BRB and Screen 21 teams. We 100% trust in them to give HighSkull that special push for it to go really far. You could say we’re like little kids with a new pair of shoes.”
