The Japanese short film Futon by Yoriko Mizushiri was announced as the winner of the Grand Prix of Anima, out of 138 projects representing 30 different countries, at the last day of the 33rd edition of the Belgium’s Anima Festival.
The jury gave an honorable mention to Marcel, King of Tervuren by the American animator Tom Schroeder.
By winning the Grand Prix the winning short Futon is eligible to be recited for an Oscar, as this year the Anima Festival was officially qualified by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The prize for this year’s best student film was awarded to Wind, by Robert Löbel from Germany. An honorable mention was given to Somewhere by Nicolas Ménard, from the United Kingdom.
This year’s audience award for a short went to Boles by Spela Cadez from Slovenia. The audience award for a feature film was won by L’Arte della Felicità, made by Italian director Alessandro Rak.
Anima Festival was held from Feb. 28 to March 9 in Brussels. More than 34,000 visitor attended the 10 days program of the Anima festival, which included international guests such as Bill Plympton, Tomm Moore, Theodore Ushev, Franck Dion, Emma De Swaef and Juan Pablo Zaramella.
The 2015 edition of Anima will be held Feb. 13-22.
