Robots, Monsters and SpongeBob Come to Video

Robots in disguise, pineapple-dwellers and a bit misunderstood monster are among the classic animated TV shows getting some home video love this week.

Up first is Godzilla: The Complete Animated Series (Mill Creek Entertainment, $9.98), collecting the late 1990s Fox series that coincided with the release of director Roland Emmerich’s 1998 re-imagining of the classic Japanese monster. The series proved hardier than the movie, running two seasons — both of which you now can catch up on before this summer’s re-imagining hits the big screen.

The robots in disguise come to disc in four releases collecting the series Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye. The releases are broken down as Transformers More Than Meets The Eye: Season One (Shout! Factory, $19.97), Transformers More Than Meets The Eye: Season Two, Volume 1 (Shout! Factory, $19.97), Transformers More Than Meets The Eye: Season Two, Volume 2 (Shout! Factory, $19.97) and Transformers More Than Meets The Eye: Seasons Three & Four (Shout! Factory, $19.97).

Also out this week from the TV file is SpongeBob SquarePants: Spongebob, You’re Fired! (Paramount, $14.95) and The Berenstain Bears: Carnival Coasters (Phase 4 Films, $9.99).

Classic animation fans will surely want to flirt with buying Betty Boop: The Essential Collection Volume 3 (Olive Films, $24.95 DVD, $29.95 Blu-ray).

And the anime corner is a busy one this week, with: Amazing Nuts (ADA, $19.95), Cat Planet Cuties (FUNimation, $24.98 DVD, $69.98 Blu-ray), Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade (ADA, $19.95), Mazinger Z: Part 1 (ADA, $69.95), Shangri-La: The Complete Series (FUNimation, $19.98), Space Battleship Yamato: The Movie (FUNimation, $29.98 DVD and Blu-ray) and Unico (ADA, $19.95 DVD, $29.95 Blu-ray double feature).
