Long-time Toon Boom President & CEO Joan Vogelesang will be leaving the animation software company after more than 16 years. Veteran exec and corporate advisor Paul Gardner has been appointed interim CEO while the company works out how to transition to new leadership. The departing Pres is starting up industry consulting group Joan Vogelesang Consultants.
The company said in a statement, “Toon Boom’s success is a direct reflection of Joan’s passion for the business.”
Under Vogelesang’s leadership, the technology firm grew from a single-product label to a global leader in animation and digital content production software. In recent years, Toon Boom has been awarded the ASIFA-Hollywood Ub Iwerks Award for Toon Boom Pipeline (2013) and a Primetime Emmy Engineering Award for Storyboard Pro’s contributions to the industry (2012).

Toon Boom is still a pioneer (with regards to animation software) it just hasn’t done anything groundbreaking since 2013 (here’s hoping they will surprise us all in 2015)
The newest version of Harmony is quite groundbreaking in my opinion. It lets you animate in vectors and bitmap in the same timeline. It also has great bone deformers for cut-out animators.
