The National Film Board of Canada is planning a slate of activities to celebrate International Animation Day, offering lots of opportunities to view animated films online and on the big screen. The eighth edition of Get Animated!, running October 28-November 2 will offer a range of films to celebrate this unique artform.
On October 29, Chris Landreth’s Annecy Cristal-winning short Subconscious Password will make its online debut at NFB.ca. The CG film is a mind-bending romp through a game show of the unconscious — including celebrity guests — in which our hero is paralyzed by his inability to remember a friend’s name. Also available online are six shorts directed by the apprentice filmmakers in Hothouse 9 — this program, curated especially for Animation Day, is complemented by a selection from past winners of NFB French Program’s Cinéaste recherché(e) emerging filmmakers’ competition.
On October 28 in Montreal, Cinéma Excentris will present a special one-night-only program of recent NFB shorts (screened in French), Animez-Vous 2014. The show starts at 7 p.m. and includes The Weatherman and the Shadowboxer by Randall Okita, Bus Story by Tali, No Fish Where to Go by Janice Nadeau & Nicola Lemay, Me and My Moulton by Torill Kove, Pilots on the Way Home by Pritt & Olga Pärn, Home Cooked Music by Mike Maryniuk and Monsieur Pug by Janet Perlman. Nicola Lemay and tali plan to be in attendance for an audience Q&A after the screening.
