‘Jurassic World’ Posts Massive $512 Million Worldwide Opening

Jurassic World had a historic weekend as it racked up the second-highest-grossing opening weekend of all time.

The Universal pic’s $205 million domestic gross was just shy of the all-time mark of $207 million set in 2012 by Marvel’s The Avengers.

Jurassic World did even better overseas, grossing $307 million for a worldwide box-office gross of $512 million.

Effects-driven disaster movie San Andreas finished the weekend in third place with $11 million in domestic ticket sales its third weekend in release. The film has grossed $119 million domestic in its run and $189 million foreign for a $308 million total.

In seventh was Mad Max: Fury Road, with $4 million in ticket sales. The acclaimed sequel has grossed $139 million domestic and $184 million foreign for a $323 million total.

The superhero sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron was No. 8 for the weekend with $3.6 million in ticket sales its seventh weekend in release. The Marvel movie has grossed $445 million domestic and $910 million foreign for $1.4 billion total, making it the year’s top-grossing movie to date.

Ninth place went to Tomorrowland, with $3.4 million in domestic ticket sales. The film has earned $84 million domestic and $94 million foreign for a $177 million total.

Also still in release is DreamWorks Animation’s feature Home, which has grossed $173 million domestic and $193 million foreign for a $366 million total after 12 weeks of release.

Next weekend sees the return of Pixar to the box office race with the release of Inside Out, directed by Pete Docter.
