New ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Trailer Drops After Tokyo Launch

The first official trailer for Ghost in the Shell has arrived, showcasing the rich, night-club colored future world of the film, unsettling androids, and a taste of Major’s powerful cybernetic tech. The film will hit theaters on March 31, 2017.

Over the weekend, stars Scarlett Johansson, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano and director Rupert Sanders stopped over in Tokyo for the global launch party for the live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga classic. The special event held at TABLOID included live Taiko drummers, including legendary anime composer Kenji Kawai (The Sky Crawlers, Innocence), and a screening of never-before seen footage.

Attendees also got to peek behind the scenes with a display of costumes and props from the film, and a chance to capture their experience in a film-centric experiential photo booth, “Becoming the Major.” The festivities concluded with Johansson, Kitano and Sanders debuting the global trailer.

Synopsis:

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost in the Shell follows Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotics’ advancements in cyber technology.
